Course: Asbestos Awareness for Maintenance and Allied Trades
The control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 (CAR2006), Regulation 10 requires every employer to ensure that adequate information, instruction and training is given to their employees who are or are liable to be exposed to asbestos during their normal, everyday working activities, or who supervise such employees.
Course Objective:
To provide an awareness and knowledge to site based employees (and those who supervise/influence such persons) of the hazards and risks posed by asbestos containing materials (ACMs) within their everyday working environment and to provide an overview of the legislative measures and controls that the employer must comply with to safeguard them, and others who may be affected by such work activities, from asbestos risk.
Upon successful completion of this course, candidates shall receive a BES Training Asbestos Awareness Site Card. The validity of this training card will be 12 months in accordance with the requirements of Regulation 10 of CAR2006.
The course is aimed at supervisors and site-based and trades personnel, including trainees such as but not limited to: general maintenance staff, electricians, plumbers, gas fitters, painters and decorators, joiners, plasterers, demolition workers, construction workers, roofers, heating and ventilation engineers, telecommunication engineers, fire and burglar alarm installers, computer installers, architects, building surveyors and shopfitters, etc. All persons who may influence how such employees work should also receive suitable asbestos awareness training.
Duration: 3 hours (with additional half hour for questions)
Course covers the following topics: - Introduction to asbestos; - Uses of asbestos and likely occurrences in buildings - with example materials; - Health effects of exposure to asbestos; - Brief review of key legislation, ACoPs and guidance - Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and CAR 2006; - Brief review of Regulations 4, 5, 10, 11 and 16 of CAR 2006; - MDHS100, survey types and understanding survey reports; - How to avoid the risks of asbestos; - General procedures for dealing with an asbestos incident/emergency; and - Non-licensable work with asbestos and HSE's Asbestos Essentials.
Assessment:
The qualification will be assessed by a multiple choice examination consisting of 15 questions under exam conditions.
Certification:
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates shall receive a BES Training Asbestos Awareness Site Card and Certificate.

Rates:
Up to 5 persons £95.00 per person 6 to 10 persons £85.00 per person 11 and over £75.00 per person
Sessions are available morning (starting at 9.30am) and afternoon (starting at 1.30pm).
